In a significant development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to Rekha Patra, the BJP candidate from Basirhat for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Patra, who is also a victim of the Sandeshkhali incident, shared her experience and the conversation she had with the Prime Minister.
Patra expressed her gratitude towards the Prime Minister for entrusting her with this responsibility. She said, “Narendra Modi has given this responsibility to a poor woman. I will carry out the responsibility with all honesty.” She also shed light on the ongoing atrocities against women in Sandeshkhali and pledged to fight for their rights.
The conversation with the Prime Minister has instilled a renewed sense of strength and determination in Patra. She said, “PM has given us his blessings and this has further strengthened us. The blessings of all mothers and sisters have made me even stronger…”
Patra also shared that the Prime Minister referred to them as ‘Shakti Swaroopa’, ‘Durga Mata’, and ‘Kaali Mata’, recognizing the strength and resilience of women. This support, according to Patra, has empowered them to continue their fight.
One of the significant issues highlighted by Patra was the inability to vote since 2011. However, she expressed optimism for the upcoming elections, stating, “All women of Basirhat will vote now…”
This interaction between the Prime Minister and the BJP candidate from Basirhat has brought attention to the region and its issues. It has set the stage for an intense electoral battle, with the spotlight on women’s rights and empowerment.
