Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 32nd International Conference of Agricultural Economists (ICAE) today, bringing global attention to the theme of “Transformation Towards Sustainable Agri-Food Systems.” The conference, held at the India International Centre, marks a significant milestone in addressing the challenges facing modern agriculture.

In his keynote address, Modi underscored the pressing need for sustainable practices in agriculture, given the complex issues such as climate change, dwindling natural resources, rising production costs, and geopolitical conflicts. “Our agricultural systems are at a critical juncture. To ensure food security and environmental sustainability, we must innovate and adapt,” Modi remarked. “This conference is an invaluable opportunity for experts and policymakers to collaborate on effective strategies for transforming our food systems.”

The ICAE conference gathers a diverse group of stakeholders including agricultural economists, researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders. The discussions will focus on key areas such as climate resilience, efficient resource management, and the economic aspects of implementing sustainable agricultural practices. The aim is to develop actionable solutions that can be adopted globally to address these urgent issues.

Modi highlighted India’s role in advancing sustainable agriculture practices and its commitment to supporting international efforts. He called for greater cooperation and knowledge exchange among nations to tackle the multifaceted challenges facing agriculture. “It is through collective action and shared knowledge that we will be able to overcome the obstacles in our path and build a more sustainable and resilient agricultural sector,” he said.

The conference will feature a range of activities including plenary sessions, panel discussions, and interactive workshops. Participants will explore innovative solutions and successful case studies that demonstrate the potential of sustainable agriculture to address current and future challenges.

As the conference progresses, it is anticipated to produce valuable insights and recommendations that will inform future policies and practices in agricultural economics. The discussions and outcomes from the ICAE are expected to have a significant impact on shaping global strategies for sustainable agriculture.

The 32nd ICAE reflects the increasing recognition of the need for sustainable solutions in agriculture and highlights the importance of global collaboration in achieving food security and environmental sustainability. With its focus on transformative approaches, the conference aims to set a new benchmark for how the world addresses the critical issues facing agri-food systems today.
