Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a momentous visit to Mumbai, where he unveiled a slew of transformative infrastructure projects and inaugurated a groundbreaking youth empowerment initiative, underscoring the government’s commitment to bolstering connectivity, economic growth, and employment opportunities across Maharashtra.
A highlight of PM Modi’s visit was the launch and foundation laying of projects collectively valued at Rs 29,400 crore across key sectors including roads, railways, and ports. Among the flagship initiatives is the Thane Borivali Tunnel Project, a monumental undertaking costing Rs. 16,600 crores. Spanning 11.8 kilometers beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, this twin tube tunnel aims to establish a direct link between Western Express Highway at Borivali and Thane Ghodbander Road. Expected to reduce travel time between Thane and Borivali by an impressive hour, the project promises enhanced commuter convenience and efficiency.
In tandem, PM Modi inaugurated the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project, with an investment exceeding Rs. 6300 crore. Extending 6.65 kilometers, the GMLR will bridge Western Express Highway at Goregaon to Eastern Express Highway at Mulund, significantly streamlining transport connectivity. This strategic artery is poised to facilitate seamless access to the upcoming new airport in Navi Mumbai and the vital Pune Mumbai Expressway, catalyzing regional economic development.
Further fortifying Maharashtra’s infrastructure, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Kalyan Yard Remodelling and the Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe, Navi Mumbai. The Kalyan Yard remodelling initiative aims to segregate long-distance and suburban train traffic, thereby optimizing rail operations and reducing congestion. Concurrently, the Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal, spanning over 32,600 square meters, promises to emerge as a pivotal hub for handling diverse commodities, fostering local employment and enhancing logistics efficiency.
Complementing these infrastructure milestones, PM Modi inaugurated upgraded facilities at Mumbai’s railway stations. New platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and extended platforms 10 & 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station are set to accommodate longer trains, augmenting passenger capacity and operational efficiency across Mumbai’s bustling rail network.
In a concerted effort to empower the youth, PM Modi also launched the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, a visionary initiative with a substantial allocation of Rs. 5600 crore. Aimed at addressing unemployment among youth aged 18 to 30 years, the scheme offers skill enhancement and industry exposure through structured internships, preparing a skilled workforce to meet evolving economic demands.
