French President Emmanuel Macron's India visit, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra says

In a significant development that promises to strengthen the ties between India and France, French President Emmanuel Macron is on an official visit to India. The visit has been marked by several key announcements that underline the growing cooperation between the two nations.

Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra announced that the Indian consulate in Marseille, a major city in southern France, and the French bureau in Hyderabad, India, are now fully operational. This move is expected to facilitate smoother diplomatic relations and foster cultural exchange between the two countries.

Another major highlight of President Macron’s visit is the announcement of setting up a solar academy in Senegal. This initiative is part of the Star Sea program of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), a joint venture launched by India and France in 2015. The ISA aims to promote solar energy in ISA member countries, and the new academy in Senegal is a step towards achieving this goal.

France has always been a strong supporter of India’s candidacy to the International Energy Agency (IEA). This support was reiterated during President Macron’s visit. The IEA plays a crucial role in ensuring global energy security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability, and India’s inclusion in the IEA would be a significant milestone.

In addition, India has extended its support to the third UN Ocean Conference, which will be co-hosted by France and Costa Rica in Nice in 2025. The conference aims to support the implementation of sustainable development goal 14: to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources.

President Macron’s visit to India marks a new chapter in Indo-French relations. The operationalization of consulates, the establishment of a solar academy, and mutual support for international initiatives reflect the shared vision and commitment of both nations towards a sustainable and prosperous future. As we look forward to more such collaborative efforts, it is clear that the strategic partnership between India and France is not just beneficial for both nations, but also plays a crucial role in addressing global challenges.
