The extensive redevelopment of Cherlapally railway station is nearing its final phase, with the South Central Railway (SCR) zone officials confirming that the project is on track to finish within the coming weeks. The upgrade, which is being carried out at an estimated cost of Rs 430 crore, promises to significantly enhance the station’s facilities and capacity.
According to sources from SCR, recent reports submitted to the Ministry of Railways indicate that the renovation work is almost complete. Located on the eastern edge of Hyderabad, the station is being developed with advanced infrastructure to better meet the demands of passengers in this rapidly growing region.
The revamped Cherlapally station will introduce 10 additional tracks, enabling it to handle 15 more pairs of train services. In addition to this, four new high-level platforms will be added, and the existing five platforms will be extended to accommodate full-length trains. These upgrades are expected to greatly improve operational efficiency and passenger convenience.
Officials highlighted that the eastern parts of Hyderabad, including LB Nagar, Uppal, and Malkajgiri, are witnessing substantial development due to their strategic location near the Outer Ring Road. The enhanced Cherlapally station is anticipated to serve as a key transit hub for residents in these expanding areas, easing congestion at other major rail terminals.
“The Cherlapally station was strategically chosen for redevelopment to alleviate pressure on other busy terminals and to better serve the growing eastern suburbs of Hyderabad,” an SCR spokesperson explained. “This development is part of our ongoing efforts to improve railway infrastructure and provide better connectivity.”
Upon completion, Cherlapally will join Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Kacheguda, and Lingampally as one of the city’s major railway terminals. The redevelopment is set to offer a substantial boost to Hyderabad’s rail network, improving travel options and capacity for commuters in the region.
