BJP Slams AIMIM-AIMPLB ‘Switch Off Lights’ Protest as Political Gimmick

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana unit has strongly criticized the protest led by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) against the recently passed Waqf Amendment Bill. As part of the protest, the two organizations called on citizens to “switch off lights” in symbolic opposition to the legislation.

BJP spokesperson NV Subash dismissed the protest as a politically motivated act. “The call given by AIMIM along with All India Personal Law Board in protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill is nothing but a political gimmick,” he said, accusing the AIMIM of misleading the Muslim community for political gain.

Subash also took direct aim at AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, saying, “On one hand, Owaisi claims there are corrupt people in the Waqf Board, and on the other hand, he vouches for it because his own people are present in the Board, who loot the money that was supposed to be given to Muslim minorities.”

He further emphasized that the Waqf Amendment Bill has already been passed by Parliament and is now part of the Constitution. “The BJP clearly says that this Bill has been passed and is for the advantage of the deprived minorities in Muslims. We appeal to the Muslim minorities to not get trapped in such false narratives,” he added.

The protest and subsequent response have intensified political tensions in the state, with minority rights and governance of religious assets emerging as key flashpoints ahead of the upcoming elections.
