In the wake of the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024, BJP’s candidate from Hyderabad, Madhavi Latha, has voiced her concerns over the recent incidents of violence in the city.
“We all know about yesterday’s violence,” she began, referring to the police’s baton charge on women. The incident came to light when Mahila Morcha president Shilpa Reddy was informed about the situation. Reddy, along with other women, rushed to the scene to provide assistance, only to be met with a similar response from the police.
Latha questioned the police’s decision to bring the women to Keesara Police Station instead of Medipally Police Station, raising concerns about the treatment of SC/ST women. “They can unleash atrocity in SC/ST women and we can’t even wipe off their tears? Is this democracy?” she asked, expressing her dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.
She went on to compare the situation to British rule and Aurangzeb’s rule, stating that it seemed as if both had joined forces. “This is ‘razakar’ rule, we want freedom from this,” she declared, calling for an end to the oppression.
Latha also criticized the government’s housing policy, alleging that two-bedroom flats were being given only to Muslims, particularly those coming from outside the city. She called on the Chief Minister to address the issue and take immediate action against the police officers involved in the assault on the women.
The BJP candidate’s remarks have added fuel to the already heated political climate in the city, with the Lok Sabha Elections just around the corner. It remains to be seen how the government will respond to these allegations and what measures will be taken to ensure a peaceful and fair election.
