Hyderabad: Amrapali Kata, a 2010-batch IAS officer, has assumed the additional charge as Managing Director of Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), the agency responsible for developing the Outer Ring Road (ORR) project. She will also serve as the in-charge project director and special collector (ORR) until further orders.
Kata, who is currently the Joint Metropolitan Commissioner of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), was given the new assignment by the state government on February 2. She has relieved the chief engineer, HMDA, from the post of MD, HGCL.
Kata, a native of Andhra Pradesh, is known for her dynamic and innovative approach to administration. She has previously served as the collector of Warangal Urban district, where she initiated several welfare and development schemes. She has also worked as the sub-collector of Vikarabad and the director of women and child welfare department.
As the MD of HGCL, Kata will oversee the completion and maintenance of the ORR project, which is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the country. The ORR is a 158-km long expressway that encircles the city of Hyderabad and connects it with the national highways and the airport. The ORR project aims to decongest the traffic in the city and facilitate the growth of satellite towns and industrial hubs along the corridor.
Kata will also coordinate with the other stakeholders involved in the ORR project, such as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC), the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), and the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB).
Kata has expressed her gratitude to the state government for entrusting her with the new responsibility and said that she will work hard to ensure the smooth functioning and development of the ORR project. She has also sought the cooperation and support of the public and the media in this regard.
