Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the new campus of the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) through a video conference and praised its achievements in innovation and research.
The PM dedicated the campus development project of IITH, which includes state-of-the-art facilities such as academic blocks, research centers, hostels, sports complex, and incubation hub, to the nation. He also interacted with the students and faculty members of the institute and lauded their efforts in various fields.
“I am delighted to see the new campus of IIT Hyderabad, which is a symbol of the aspirations and potential of the youth of India. IIT Hyderabad is one of the leading institutes in the country, which has made a mark in innovation and research. It has also contributed to the nation’s fight against COVID-19 by developing low-cost ventilators, testing kits, and face shields,” Modi said.
The PM also highlighted the role of IITH in promoting the culture of entrepreneurship and start-ups in the country. He said that the institute has incubated over 50 start-ups, which have generated employment and wealth for the society. He urged the students to work on solving the problems of the common people and creating an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
“IIT Hyderabad is not only a center of excellence, but also a center of empowerment. It is empowering the youth with knowledge, skills, and confidence to shape their future and the future of the country. It is also empowering the rural and urban communities with technology and innovation. I urge you to keep up the good work and become the harbingers of change and progress,” Modi said.
The PM also congratulated the Telangana government and the IITH administration for their support and cooperation in the development of the campus. He said that the central government is committed to providing all the necessary resources and facilities to the institutes of higher education in the country.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Governor of Telangana, Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Chief Minister of Telangana, K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Minister of State for Education, Subhas Sarkar, and other dignitaries. The Director of IITH, Prof. B.S. Murty, presented the report of the institute and thanked the PM for his vision and guidance.
