Hyderabad, Telangana: BJP leader N. Ramchander Rao on Tuesday said that people across the country have strong faith in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), citing a recent survey which showed that most voters in Karnataka trust the system.
“People of the country have faith in EVMs. India is one of the countries where elections are held on EVMs on a large scale,” Rao said, highlighting India’s extensive experience in conducting elections using electronic voting.
Referring to judicial scrutiny, the BJP leader said that the Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld the credibility of EVMs. “The Supreme Court has also said that the EVM cannot be tampered,” he added.
Taking a swipe at the Congress, Rao alleged that the party raises questions about EVMs selectively. “When Congress loses an election, it blames EVM,” he remarked.
The issue of EVM reliability has often surfaced in political debates, especially around election results. However, the Election Commission and the judiciary have consistently maintained that the machines are secure and reliable, and that robust safeguards are in place to ensure free and fair elections.
