BJP’s NV Subhash Criticizes Congress After Telangana HC Puts Interim Stay on 42% BC Reservation

Hyderabad, Telangana: Following the Telangana High Court’s interim stay on the 42% Backward Classes (BC) reservation in local body elections, BJP leader NV Subhash criticized the Congress government, calling the development a reflection of its “failure” on the issue.

Subhash said, “It is nothing but the failure of the Congress party because the Congress party has been advocating these BC reservations right before the elections in 2023 itself. After the arguments have been heard, the court has granted a stay on that.” He alleged that the Telangana Congress government is not genuinely in favour of BC reservations, contrasting it with the BJP’s consistent support for the community.

He further explained that the implementation of BC reservations cannot take place under Schedule 9 and requires the concurrence of the governor. “A six-week stay has been given by the High Court, which has given the government another chance to appeal. But we are concerned that whenever the elections are held, we will give 45% reservations to the BC community in Telangana,” Subhash added.

The High Court’s decision temporarily halts the government’s plan to implement 42% BC reservations in local body elections, pending further legal review. The ruling has become a focal point in Telangana politics, with both the ruling Congress and the BJP asserting their respective positions on social justice and reservation policies.
