BJP leader N Ramchander Rao has expressed strong support for the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, calling it a historic moment for the country. Speaking to the media, Rao emphasized that the overwhelming support for the bill across the Houses of Parliament reflects the broad consensus among MPs and political parties on the need to reform the Waqf system.
“After the passage of the Bill in the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha has also passed the Bill, showing that the majority of MPs and political parties are in favor of amending the Waqf Act,” said Rao. “The necessary amendments have been made, which will benefit the Muslim community at large, ensuring that Waqf properties are properly managed and utilized for the welfare of the poor and marginalized.”
Rao also took the opportunity to address ongoing criticisms of the bill from certain political parties, who, according to him, are attempting to spread misinformation and create divisions within society. “Some political parties are still trying to spread misinformation and divide society on this important issue. However, the fact remains that this is a welcome step, and it is a historical moment for the country,” he stated.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill seeks to bring greater transparency and accountability to the management of Waqf properties across India. Key provisions of the bill include the establishment of a portal for the registration and monitoring of Waqf properties and the appointment of a committee by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to audit the properties.
Rao’s remarks reflect the BJP’s stance that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is a progressive step that will benefit the Muslim community, while also addressing concerns of corruption and inefficiency within the Waqf system. The bill has stirred significant debate, with opposition parties raising concerns over its potential impact on the autonomy of minority institutions.
With the passage of the bill, supporters view it as a landmark reform aimed at ensuring the proper utilization of Waqf assets, while critics remain wary of its long-term consequences. Nonetheless, for BJP leaders like N Ramchander Rao, the successful passage of the bill is a victory for the country’s development and progress.
