The initiative, which seeks to rally public and governmental efforts toward effective water management, reflects Modi’s commitment to leveraging India’s rich heritage and modern innovations in addressing the country’s water challenges.
PM Modi highlighted India’s profound historical wisdom in managing its water resources, noting that despite possessing only 4% of the world’s fresh water, the nation has developed a legacy of effective water stewardship. “Our ancient practices and modern innovations together create a robust framework for water conservation,” Modi stated, emphasizing that safeguarding this precious resource is essential for future generations.
One of the key achievements under Modi’s leadership is the Jal Jeevan Mission, which has successfully provided piped water access to over 15 crore rural households across India. This ambitious project aims to ensure every household has a reliable and clean water supply, marking a significant milestone in rural water infrastructure.
Additionally, the Jal Shakti Abhiyan has galvanized a nationwide movement toward water conservation and management. The campaign has led to the creation of over 60,000 Amrit Sarovars—large water bodies designed to improve water availability and recharge groundwater. Initiatives like Catch the Rain and Namami Gange have further advanced the cause, focusing on rainwater harvesting and the rejuvenation of the Ganges River, respectively.
PM Modi urged the adoption of innovative technologies and methods, alongside traditional knowledge, particularly in the agricultural sector. He stressed that integrating advanced techniques with time-tested practices is crucial for enhancing water efficiency and boosting crop productivity. “Our approach must be holistic, incorporating both cutting-edge technology and our deep-rooted traditions to achieve water security and agricultural prosperity,” Modi advised.
