In a decisive move to boost India’s coal production and energy security, Hon’ble Minister of Coal, Shri G Kishan Reddy, has issued vesting orders for ten critical coal mines. This strategic step is expected to significantly enhance the nation’s coal output and drive economic development across Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh.
The newly vested mines include one fully explored and nine partially explored sites, boasting a total geological reserve of 2,395 million tonnes (MT). These mines are projected to generate an annual revenue of Rs. 166.36 crores and will attract a capital investment of Rs. 150 crores. The development of these mines is anticipated to create around 1,352 jobs, both directly and indirectly, bolstering regional employment and economic growth.
During the announcement, Shri G Kishan Reddy urged the successful bidders to focus on increasing coal production and reducing import dependence. He highlighted the necessity of balancing production goals with environmental sustainability and responsible land management. Shri Reddy emphasized the importance of enhancing green cover, adhering to high safety standards, and making tangible contributions to local community welfare, including in areas like healthcare, education, and drinking water. He also stressed the need for building strong relationships with local communities to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of the coal sector.
Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, Minister of State for Coal, underscored the importance of maintaining integrity and diligence in mining operations. He reiterated the need for sustainable mining practices and the focus on community well-being, particularly for those living near mining areas.
Shri Amrit Lal Meena, Coal Secretary, congratulated the successful bidders and encouraged them to expedite the operationalization of the coal blocks. He assured them of the Ministry’s support and called for innovative approaches to minimize environmental impact while maximizing production efficiency.
This initiative is a key component of the Indian government’s strategy to achieve self-reliance in the coal sector, reduce import dependency, and ensure a reliable coal supply to meet the country’s growing energy needs. The development of these mines is expected to foster regional economic growth, support infrastructure projects, and enhance community welfare.
The Ministry of Coal is dedicated to implementing environmentally responsible and sustainable mining practices. This aligns with the broader government objectives of ensuring energy security, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting sustainable development. By effectively managing natural resources, the Ministry aims to advance India’s goal of becoming Atmanirbhar Bharat in the energy sector.
