Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Mumbai, Maharashtra, to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for a series of ambitious infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 29,400 crores. These projects, spanning the road, railway, and port sectors, are aimed at enhancing connectivity, reducing travel time, and catalyzing economic growth in the region.
In his address to the audience comprising government officials and stakeholders, PM Modi emphasized the transformative impact of these projects on Mumbai’s infrastructure landscape. A highlight of the initiatives launched is the Thane Borivali Tunnel Project, a monumental endeavor costing Rs. 16,600 crores. Spanning 11.8 kilometers beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, this twin tube tunnel will provide a crucial direct link between Western Express Highway at Borivali and Thane Ghodbander Road. This infrastructure marvel is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Thane and Borivali, easing traffic congestion and enhancing commuter convenience.
Additionally, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project, with an investment exceeding Rs. 6300 crore. The GMLR, stretching over 6.65 kilometers, will connect Western Express Highway at Goregaon to Eastern Express Highway at Mulund, enhancing intra-city connectivity and supporting economic activities. This strategic project will facilitate smoother traffic flow and improve access to key economic centers.
Further strengthening Mumbai’s infrastructure, PM Modi inaugurated the Kalyan Yard Remodelling and the Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe, Navi Mumbai. The Kalyan Yard remodelling aims to segregate long-distance and suburban train traffic, thereby improving operational efficiency and reducing congestion. Simultaneously, the Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal, spanning over 32,600 square meters, will serve as a crucial hub for handling various commodities, promoting trade and creating employment opportunities.
Acknowledging the significance of railway infrastructure, PM Modi also dedicated upgraded facilities at key stations including Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. These enhancements include new platforms and extended facilities to accommodate longer trains, enhancing operational efficiency and passenger comfort.
Furthermore, PM Modi launched the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, a visionary initiative with an allocation of approximately Rs. 5600 crore. This initiative aims to empower youth by providing skill enhancement and industry exposure through structured internships, preparing them for diverse career opportunities and contributing to reducing unemployment.
PM Modi’s comprehensive agenda in Mumbai underscores the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, economic prosperity, and youth empowerment. These transformative initiatives are set to accelerate Maharashtra’s growth trajectory, fostering inclusive development and positioning the state as a key economic hub on the global stage.
