Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a scathing critique of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s recent electoral decisions during a public gathering in Bardhaman-Durgapur, West Bengal. Modi’s remarks, laden with political undertones, added fervor to the already intense political climate as elections draw near.
Speaking before a receptive audience, PM Modi didn’t hold back, directly addressing Gandhi’s choice to contest from Raebareli. He began by recalling his earlier statements in Parliament, predicting that the Congress’s “biggest leader” would avoid contesting elections and instead opt for a safer route. “She ran away to Rajasthan and came to the Rajya Sabha,” Modi quipped, alluding to a senior Congress leader’s shift in political trajectory.
Modi’s commentary didn’t stop there; he proceeded to forecast Rahul Gandhi’s electoral prospects, referring to him as ‘Shehzada’. “I had already said that the Shehzada was going to lose in Wayanad,” Modi asserted, suggesting Gandhi’s subsequent search for another electoral seat.
In a further jab at Gandhi’s political maneuvering, Modi highlighted the irony of Gandhi’s decision to contest from Raebareli, historically a bastion of the Gandhi family. “He is so scared of Amethi that he is running towards Raebareli,” Modi quipped, alluding to the symbolic significance of both constituencies in Indian politics.
The Prime Minister concluded his remarks with a rhetorical flourish, blending Congress’s slogan, ‘Daro Mat’ (Don’t be afraid), with his own twist. “Today, I also ask them, ‘Daro Mat, Bhago Mat’ (Don’t be afraid, don’t run away),” Modi declared, to applause from the crowd.
Modi’s comments inject fresh vigor into the political discourse ahead of the impending elections. As electoral campaigns intensify, the impact of such rhetorical salvos on voter sentiment and electoral outcomes remains uncertain. With both major parties gearing up for a fiercely contested electoral battle, the stage is set for a high-stakes political showdown in the days to come.
